White House tax policy adviser John Rutledge says Missouri must embrace changes in technology and global economics. In an address at Missouri Chamber of Commerce offices in Jefferson City, Rutledge spoke of the technological and investment strategies affecting businesses throughout the United States and the world, and how those strategies play a role in economic growth. Rutledge says the technology infrastructures that exist in many parts of the U.S. are not conducive to the changing growth economies of the modern world. In making his pitch for change, Rutledge pointed to legislation now before the Missouri General Assembly that would allow greater competition in the cable television field. He says the franchise contracts that currently exist are monopolies which stand in the way of competitive pricing. Competitive pricing, he argues, will encourage and nurture those technological advances needed to allow Missouri and the nation to compete with growth being experienced elsewhere around the world.
