Kansas City sportswriter Joe McGuff will be honored on Friday when the Royals will name the press box at Kauffman Stadium after him. McGuff, who many say are responsible for Kansas City getting the Royals, died in February after battling ALS. He was 79.

In 1985, McGuff was inducted into the writers wing of the Baseball Hall of Fame. He worked for the Kansas City Star for 44 years. He served in capacities beyond just a sports writer—McGuff was also the editor and vice president.
