Former Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbitt is proposing that the Missouri River between St. Louis and Kansas City be turned into a national park. It’s not the first time the former Clinton Cabinet member has made that suggestion, but it got little traction a few years ago when it first came up. Babbitt plans to revamp the idea in speeches in St. Louis and Columbia on Thursday. He says it would be wonderful for towns along the way. Critics, including farmers and barge operators, call the idea crazy.
