The Springfield Cardinals utilized brawn on a night when finesse was in short supply to beat Tulsa Drillers 10-7 in Tulsa. The Cardinals hit five home runs and committed three errors in the win.
The first long ball of the night came in the second inning, when Cody Haerther hit a two-run homer to give Springfield a 2-1 lead. Tulsa scored twice in the bottom of the second to take the lead back, 3-2 in the bottom of the second.
Reid Gorecki retied it for Springfield with a solo blast in the top of the third.
In the top of the fourth, Rico Washington led off with a solo home run and Haerther later scored on a single from Iker Franco and the Cardinals were up 5-3.
But again, Tulsa had an answer. Matthew Macri hit a two-run homer after Jordan Czarniecki led off the inning with a walk and it was tied 5-5.
Springfield took the lead back for good in the top of the fifth, thanks to a two-run homer from Matthew Dryer to make it 7-5. Franco went deep with a two-run blast in the seventh to cap the fireworks.
Springfield starting pitcher Chris Lambert allowed six runs and six hits, but still got the win in five innings of work.
