The deadline to file 2005 federal and state income tax returns is just around the corner. But the usual April 15th filing date has been extended, this year. Maura Browning with the State Revenue Department says those who haven’t yet filed will have until Monday, April 17th, because the 15th falls on a Saturday this year. Browning reminds taxpayers that even those who are unable to pay what they owe at this time must file by the April 17th deadline to avoid late filing penalties. Taxpayers can e-file and have the date of filing marked as soon as it is sent, or they can file by mail and make sure the returns have a pre-April 18th postmark. Browning says those who need help who wait until Monday might have difficulty getting appointments at tax preparation offices. So, get moving now. She adds the people at the Revenue Department have done a great job of getting refunds back to taxpayers in a matter of days.
