The Cardinals improved to 2-0 in their new ballpark with an 8-3 win over the Brewers on Thursday night. The Cardinals early 4-0 lead was cut to one run, when Carlos Lee hit a three-run homer off Jason Marquis in the fourth inning. An inning later, Jim Edmonds broke the game open for the Cardinals in the fifth inning when he doubled with the bases loaded. A fielding error by Brewers center fielder Geoff Jenkins and a wild relay throw from second baseman Rickie Weeks not only cleared the bases, but allowed Edmonds to score too. That made it 8-3.

Scott Rolen drove in two runs, as Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina drove in a run apiece Rolen leads the team in RBI’s with 11.

The top of the Cardinals lineup, David Eckstein and Juan Encarnacion, were a combined 3-for-7 with four runs. Encarnacion had two hits to snap an 0-for-10 funk.

Marquis(2-0) gave up three runs off seven hits, no walks and five strikeouts over six innings to get the win.
