A special committee is being formed in the House so lawmakers can get a handle on the impact of immigration on Missouri. House Speaker Rod Jetton of Marble Hill has announced he will form the Special Committee on Immigration Reform and has asked it to help shape the direction of the state’s immigration policy. Jetton has appointed Representative Ed Emery of Lamar as Chairman. Emery says his committee is in the formative stage and will begin by holding public hearings to better understand the extent of the problem. The committee will form and begin planning during the closing weeks of this session. It will meet during the interim. Eight Republicans and five Democrats will serve on the committee.
