At the state capital in Jefferson City Monday, former Cardinals broadcaster Jack Buck was enshrined into the Hall of Famous Missourians. A bust of his likeness was unveiled in the capital rotunda with a number of onlookers.

Former Missouri Speaker of the House, and current Federal Prosecutor, Catherine Hanaway, who was responsible for pushing for Buck’s induction, spoke first and introduced fellow speaker including Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa, Harry Webber, who sculpted Buck’s bust and Buck’s wife, Carol.

Other inductees in the Hall of Famous Missourians include: Stan Musial, Walter Cronkite, Samuel Clemens, Edwin Hubble, Charlie Parker, Walt Disney and Thomas Hart Benton.

Buck began broadcasting Cardinals games in 1954 and remained a member of the broadcast team until 2001. In that time he also gained national exposure as the voice of “Monday Night Football” on the radio. He was also the radio voice of 17 Super Bowls and he broadcast the World Series on both radio and TV during his career. Buck died in June of 2002 at the age of 77.
