The NFL has released the schedules for 2006. The marquee match up for many football fans in the Show-Me State will be on November 5, when the Rams host the Chiefs. The two teams will meet in the pre-season for the annual “Governor’s Cup” on August 26 in Kansas City. Since the Rams relocated to St. Louis in 1995, the Chiefs have won all three regular season meetings.

The Chiefs open up the season by hosting the Bengals, which ended a long post-season drought last year. Kansas City will face both teams in Super Bowl XL when they travel to Pittsburgh on October 15 and host the Seahawks on October 29. They’ll host their two biggest rivals in the span of four days, when the Raiders visit Arrowhead on November 19 and the Broncos come to town four days later for a Thursday night game. Their last game of the season will be on New Year’s Eve, when they host the Jaguars. They will not play on Monday night this season.

The Rams will open the season with a September 10 home game against the Broncos. They’ll reunite with former head coach Mike Martz when the Lions visit the Dome on October 1. After being fired by the Rams, Martz accepted the offensive coordinator position for Detroit. On October 15, the Rams will face the Seahawks at home. They’ll face Seattle on the road on November 12. Other games against 2005 playoff teams include a road game at Carolina on November 19, a home game against the Bears on December 11 and a home game against the Redskins on Christmas Eve. The game against the Bears represents their only Monday night appearance in the 2006 season.
