Adam Wainwright, who has dominated out of the bullpen, has secured a spot in the Cardinals’ bullpen. In 14.2 innings of work this spring, Wainwright has allowed six runs, but only one of them earned, for a 0.61 ERA. The final spot in the bullpen will go to Josh Hancock, Alan Benes or Brian Falkenborg. Speculation is that Hancock is the front-runner, though manager Tony LaRussa wouldn’t confirm that on Wednesday.

The Cardinals sent outfielders Chris Duncan and John Gall down to the minors, which means Skip Schumaker will suit up for the big club on opening day. His stay may be limited, as the Cardinals wait for the return of Larry Bigbie, who is recovering from a stress fracture in his left foot.

The Cardinals released infielder Deivi Cruz, who hit .146 this spring. Scott Spiezio, who played 29 games for the Mariners last season and Hector Luna are the two remaining infielders fighting for a reserve role.
