A State Senator says towns that become speed traps are disrespecting law enforcement and provoking division among their citizens. Senator John Cauthorn of Mexico has gotten quick Senate passage of his bill tightening limits on the share of a community’s budget that can come from speeding tickets. A decade ago, the Legislature pass the first speed-trap law because of the Camden County community of Mack’s Creek. This bill puts more limits on towns such as Curryville, Eolia, and Auxvasse – all in Cauthorn’s district – and others. The Senate has sent the bill to the House.
