Construction will start in Columbia in August on a building that will do research on some of world’s worst airborne diseases. The federal government is providing $12-Million for the Missouri Regional Biocontainment Laboratory. The federal government decided after the 2001 terrorist attacks to set up 13 regional labs to study such things as anthrax, tuberculosis, SARS, and West Nile Virus and look for ways to detect those diseases and provide caccines and therapies for them. The building should be finished late next year or early in 2008.
