The Missouri House Democratic Campaign Committee is going to pay one of the largest fines ever assessed by the State Ethics Commission for campaign finance violations. A series of campaign finance violations, dating back to 2002, will cost the Missouri House Democratic Campaign Committee $104,000. Those violations included failure to report which candidates received what amounts of direct support during the 2002 general election campaign, failure to report certain contributions and expenditures, and failure to maintain and produce committee records. Ethics Commission Executive Director Bob Connor says this fine is huge – one of the top five ever assessed. In a separate assessment, then-Missouri House member and now-Congressman Russ Carnahan has been fined $600 for signing campaign checks he was not authorized to sign.
