President Bush has declared that several Missouri counties suffered enough storm damage to be declared federal disaster areas. That will qualify them for federal assistance. The president’s action makes federal funding available to homeowners who suffered property damage in Christian, Hickory, Johnson, Monroe, Perry, Pettis, Randolph, Ste. Genevieve and Saline. Federal assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses as well as other programs designed to help individuals and businesses recover from the effects of the severe storms that rolled through Missouri March 11th through the 13th. Federal Emergency Management Agency assessment teams continue to survey the damage left in the wake of the storms. More counties could be added to the list. More federal assistance could be coming to Missouri. Residents and busienss owners can apply for assistance by registering on-line at fema.gov or by calling toll free 1-800-621-3362.
