Harrisburg knocked off defending champion, Marionville, 41-38 to win the Class 2 Boy’s Show-Me Showdown and secure their first state championship. Senior guard Kyle Fisher fell below his 27 points per game average, but it didn’t seem to matter for the Bulldogs.

Fisher scored nine of his game-high 20 points in the final 5:12 of the game.

Harrisburg held a 33-32 lead with 5:10 to go, when Marionvile junior guard Lee flood hit a shot to put the Comets up by one, 34-33. Fisher responded for the Bulldogs with a floater that bounced the lead back in favor of Harrisburg, 35-34.

After stopping Marionville, Harrisburg came back and again it was Fisher coming through, with another bucket to put the Bulldogs up by three. Back came Marionville, only this time they went airborne. Sophomore guard Edgar Garrison launched a three-pointer, which tied the game at 36-36.

Not to be out-done, Fisher responded at the other end with a trey of his own to make it 39-36.

The Bulldogs had a 39-38 lead with 10.8 seconds to go, when Fisher iced the game with two free throws to make it 41-38.

Marionville succeeded this season with low-scoring defensive battles and they did it again, but it wasn’t enought to stop the Bulldogs. Only one team, Springfield Kickapoo scored more than 50 on the Comets all season. They finished the season 27-4. Jake Grubbs and Garrison each had 11 for Marionville.

Harrisburg finishes 28-4.
