Phones at insurance companies are ringing off the hook in the wake of the damages caused by the tornadoes and severe thunderstorms that slammed the state last weekend. The State Department of Insurance wants consumers’ experiences with insurance companies to be positive. It’s going to be some time before the monetary value of the damages is known, but Matt Barton with the State Department of Insurance says anyone who has suffered a loss should move quickly to inform his or her insurance company. Barton says it’s important that all losses be documented, by jotting down notes and by taking photographs. The claimant should then contact the insurance company, with as much information as possible. Anyone who feels slighted or unsatisfied by an insurance company should contact the Department of Insurance Consumer Hotline at 800-726-7390.
