To no one’s real surprise, safety Adam Archuleta is no longer a St. Louis Ram. He agreed to a six-year $30 million contract with the Redskins on Monday. His fate was all-but sealed when the Rams signed free agent safety Cory Chavous from the Vikings on Sunday.

The Rams also lost defensive tackle Damione Lewis on Monday, as he signed with the Carolina Panthers. He had 40 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery for the Rams.

It also appears that defensive tackle Ryan Pickett is close to finding a new home, as well. He’s visited with the Packers and will also talk to the Bills.

This will be a disappointing chapter in what seemed like a revival for the Rams just five years ago. Archuleta, Lewis and Pickett were all taken in the first round of the 2001 draft by the Rams. That year, Lewis was taken 12th, Archuleta 20th and Pickett 29th. Last year the Rams defense was ranked 30th out of 32 NFL teams.
