Senator Jim Talent will likely be at the White House today for the signing of the Patriot Act, because his Anti-Meth bill is part of the legislation approved by Congress. Talent co-sponsored the anti-methamphetamine legislation with California Senator Dianne Feinstein. Missouri and California consistenly rank at the top in meth lab busts. Talent expects the legislation to help greatly. The main aspect of the bill is the restriction of the products needed to make meth, primarily cold medicines that contain pseudoephedrine – a popular meth ingrediant. It also provides additional money to local law enforcement battling meth and to teams responding to children in the homes of meth cookers. It increases the penalties for meth cookers and sellers.
