The number of Missourians filing for unemployment benefits is on the decline. Statistics released by the State Labor Department show the initial unemployment insurance claims filed in January fell by 11,637 compared to the same period last year. That represents a 22.3 percent change from January of 2005. And, the number of continued unemployment insurance claims for the period fell by 29,123 – a 13.7 percent decline.
