A weekend-long celebration of the 60th anniversary of Sir Winston Churchill’s famous Iron Curtain speech is underway on the campus of Westminster College in Fulton. The highlight of the weekend is the opening of a renovated Churchill Memorial and Library, which has undergone a $4-million upgrade. The memorial will be open to the public and free of charge this weekend. Churchill’s lone surviving child, Lady Mary Soames, opened the celebration with a student forum in which she spoke about her father’s leadership, the relationship between her father and her mother, her childhood, World War II and the Cold War. Several guests will be on hand throughout the weekend. Broadcaster Chris Matthews speaks at a gala black tie event Saturday night. The weekend culminates with a church service at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Aldermanbury on the Westminster campus Sunday morning.
