A House committee is being asked to support a number of resolutions that would provide a tax break to active-duty military personnel. One of the three being considered by the House Veterans Committee is sponsored by Representative Jim Whorton of Trenton, who wants to exclude active-duty military men and women from having to pay the property tax on their vehicles. All would require a change in the State Constitution to allow for the tax exemption – a change that would have to be approved by a vote of the people. Whorton expects the three resolutions to be rolled into one before the idea moves forward in the legislative process.
