A Justice Department study of sexual assaults in prisons shows Missouri had 45 sexual misconduct incidents by jail and prison staff members and 17 inmate on inmate nonconsensual sex acts. The numbers are from 2004. The State Corrtections Department says fourteen staff members have been fired, three were referred for prosecution and two others were disciplined, but not fired. The State Corrections Department has a Prison Rape Elimination team working on developing more effective ways to keep the incidents from happening.
