It was a wild game, which resulted in a shoot out and the eighth straight loss for the Blues. St. Louis fell to Washington 5-4 at the MCI Center on Thursday. Matt Pettinger scored the game-winner in round four, as Scott Young missed his shot.

The two teams traded goals twice in the first period and the game was tied 2-2 going into the first intermission. Alexander Ovechkin’s goal at the 9:52 mark of the first gave the Capitals a 2-1 lead. It was the rookie’s 33rd goal of the season. Dennis Wideman’s goal with 1:37 to go in the first tied it up. Young scored earlier in the period for St. Louis.

The only goal of the second period, a power-play score by Mike Sillinger, gave the Blues a 3-2 lead. But in the third Chris Clark and Brian Willsie both scored in the first four minutes of the period to tie the game and give the Capitals the lead. Dean McAmmond’s 13th goal of the season at the 15:31 mark of the third tied it at 4-4.
