Seven people died on Missouri’s roads during the State Highway Patrol’s New Year’s holiday counting period that started Friday at 6 p.m. and ran through Monday night at 11:59. In all, there were 220 traffic crashes investigated during the 78-hour holiday weekend, which included seven fatalities and 81 injuries. In addition, Troopers arrested 151 people for driving while intoxicated. During last year’s 54-hour counting period, 12 people died and 77 people were injured in traffic crashes. During that time the Highway Patrol investigated 166 traffic crashes and arrested 121 people for driving while intoxicated.
