The St. Louis Blues grabbed a 2-1 victory on the road against the Blackhawks in a performance that could be best described as efficient. Eric Brewer and Dallas Drake scored the Blues’ only goals of the night in a 1:33 span at the end of the first period.

Brewer, who was assisted by Scott Young and Doug Weight, beat Nikolai Khabibulin at the 17:44 mark of the first. Then, just 59 seconds later, the Blackhawks were whistled for having too many men on the ice and the Blues went on the power-play. At the 19:17 mark, Dallas Drake scored his second goal of the season to make it 2-0. Petr Cajanek and Young were credited with assists.

It was now up to rookie goaltender Jason Bacashihua to preserve the lead. He faced just 22 shots on the night and his only slip-up came at the 15:28 mark of the third period, when Kyle Calder scored his seventh goal of the year.

Bacashihua has started the last six games for St. Louis and they’re 3-3 in those games.

Khabibulin was pulled after the second period with a groin injury.
