The Blues did something they haven’t done very often this season—they led in third period and held on to it for a 5-4 win over the Coyotes. Not only did they take the lead, but they added to it.

Aaron Downey broke a 3-3 tie just 3:16 into the third period with his second goal of the year. At the 10:28 mark Jamal Mayers netted his ninth goal to make it 5-3. The Coyotes only threat in the third period was a power-play goal from Mike Comrie with 3:58 remaining.

Rookie goaltender Jason Bacashihua had 33 saves on 37 shots, to earn his first win in the NHL.

The power-play was perhaps the most impressive phase of the Blues’ play on Monday. Their first three goals all came on the man advantage. Mike Sillinger scored the first two goals of the night for St. Louis, upping his season total to 11. Scott Young also scored and had two assists.
