The Missouri St. University Board of Governors voted 5-0 today to cut five sports from it’s Athletic Department. Men’s indoor and outdoor track, men’s cross country, men’s tennis and women’s tennis are now gone.

University president Dr. Michael Nietzel didn’t think MSU could afford to support 21 sports any longer, so he appointed a committee to look at the problem. The committee tried to cut sports that would allow the university to save the most amount of money, but limit the number of athletes affected.

The move is expected to save the university 350,000 dollars next year. Within three years, the university figures that will increase to 500,000 dollars per year. If the student athletes choose to stay at MSU, they will keep their scholarships.
