Governor Matt Blunt’s trade mission to the country of Mexico is in its second day with more talks and word that understanding is more likely than commitment at the end. The Governor says he was surprised by the in-depth knowledge Mexican President Vicente Fox has of the Smart Port – the inland Mexican customs facility going up in Kansas City. It will be the first facility of its kind in the United States and will make it much easier to ship products directly from here to there. The Governor says he does not expect to come home with hard agreements, but hopes his visit opens Mexico to more use of Missouri goods. Blunt says creating better job opportunities in Mexico is one way to reduce the problem of illegal immigration from that country. And he says creation of job opportunities there increases the opportunity for manufacturing jobs to be created here. The delegation will return later this week.
