The Missouri State University- West Plains volleyball team finished third at the National Junior College Athletic Association’s national tournament, in West Plains on Wednesday. The Grizzlies topped Western Nebraska Community College in five games (30-24, 23-30, 30-22, 28-30, 15-12) in the consolation match. With the win, MSU-WP, finished the season with a record of 40-9. They’ve qualified for the national tournament in six straight seasons.

The title went to a perennial powerhouse in junior college volleyball, as College of Southern Idaho (50-2) beat defending champ Miami Dade College (Fla.) in a sweep (30-24, 30-20, 30-23). It was the eighth national championship CSI has won in the last 13 years.

The tournament was in its fifth year at West Plains and will return for a sixth in 2006. The host past 2006 has not been determined.
