The St. Louis Cardinals have talked with Marlins pitcher A.J. Burnett, but they aren’t exactly in exclusive company right now. Burnett, who is a free agent, has a list of nine teams he’s currently interested in. His agent told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that the team met with Burnett on Tuesday.

The Cardinals would like to address the possibility of adding a starter. Cy Young Award winner Chris Carpenter, Mark Mulder, Jeff Suppan and Jason Marquis are all under contract (Marquis is arbitration-eligible) and Matt Morris is a free agent.

Burnett was 12-12 with the Marlins in 2005, posting a 3.44 ERA. He’s seeking a five-year contract.
