An audit of Vashon High School in St. Louis claims school officials mismanaged thousands of dollars, mainly in its basketball program. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports it obtained the audit papers that, in some cases, point to celebrated basketball coach and former Principal Floyd Irons. St. Louis Public School officials cannot account for basketball team ticket sales, fundraisers and travel expenses. The audits used both internal and independent auditors. They disclosed that Vashon administrators bought expensive equipment, such as a new gym floor and scoreboard, without getting prior approval. In an internal audit dated last year, the school district’s Chief Financial Officer concluded that Vashon’s records and procedures were so poor it wasn’t possible to determine accurately how big the problem was and if anyone reap personal gain.
