It was 1900. A banquet was under way in Boston, partly to honor a young Englishman who gained fame as a correspondent in the Boer War, Winston Churchill. The banquet was being given by a Missouri author who was already well-known in this country, England, and Europe. ‘His’ name was Winston Churchill. The mother of the American Churchill died after he was born in St. Louis. He was raised by an aunt and uncle. His early schooling was at Smith Academy, a preparatory school that was part of Washington University.
