The Kansas City Police Chief is being hauled into the court to explain why his department edited a videotape showing the arrest of a suspected car thief. The edited tape was given to the lawyer for the man police arrested and jolted five times with a Taser. Some of the Taser hits came after he’d been handcuffed and had stopped fighting with officers. Lawyers for defendant Matthew Butt say the charges should be dismissed because police illegally interviewed him. The first copy of the video given to Butt’s lawyers ended before Butt was shocked for the last time and before he asked for a lawyer. The judge has told chief Jim Corwin to explain why he should not be fined or jailed for contempt of court.
