Attorney General Jay Nixon is appealing a federal judge’s decision that overturns the murder coviction of an Osage County man convicted of killing his mother. The Attorney General has filed an appeal with the Federal Appeals Court in St. Louis. A federal magistrate had ruled last month that Dale Helmig did not get a fair trial because the jury was allowed to use a map that had not been introduce din evidence. The body of Helmig’s mother was found in the Osage River in 1993. A concrete block had been tied to her body.
