He had to drop out of college when he came down with consumption. His home remedy seems enough to make one even sicker, but he ecovered. He spent his illness reading the works of Martin Luther and later became one of the greatest Lutheran clergymen in church history. In fact, he more than anyone else was responsible for founding the largest Lutheran synod in America – the Missouri Synod.
