On Thursday the tip off for the new college basketball hall of fame in Kansas City began with a luncheon in downtown KC. It was announced that the name of the building that houses the hall will be called “College Basketball: The Experience”. It will be a part of the new downtown arena, which will open, along with the hall, in 2007.

The hall of fame will be overseen by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, which will also be located there. It’s estimated that 400,000 people will visit the hall of fame each year.

Speakers at yesterday’s event included Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski and CBS basketball analyst Bill Packer

As of now, there is one team that will call the Sprint Center home: the newly awarded Kansas City franchise in the Arena Football League. They’ll begin play in 2006 at Kemper.
