Senator Kit Bond says America must be patient as it makes progress in Iraq. Bond tells fellow Senators strides are being made in Iraq and, during his floor speech, he refers to a letter that has become controversial. Government officials released the letter last week, saying special forces found it this summer, a letter apparently written by a top Al Qaeda official to the group’s top man in Iraq. Bond says the letter reminds the younger man of the power of world opinion and urges him to alter terrorist tactics that don’t play well on TV. Bond assumes the letter’s authenticity. Some experts, though, say it could be a fake. They say some contents of the 6,000 word letter don’t ring true, though. They say the general outline of the terrorist group’s goals for Iraq conform with previous statements.
