The St. Louis Rams 17-0 lead over the Colts wasn’t enough to lead them to a win. Instead, they wound up on the losing end of a 45-28 decision in Indianapolis.

The Rams offense scored on their first drive, going 80 yards in six plays, scoring on a 21-yard run from Steven Jackson. The Colts then fumbled the ensuing kickoff and the Rams Recovered. Jeff Wilkins connected on a 29-yard field goal to give the Rams a 10-0.

After forcing the Colts to punt on the next possession, the Rams took over. On the fourth play of St. Louis’ drive, Marc Bulger hit Kevin Curtis for a 57-yard touchdown pass.

That was where the good times ended for the Rams. On their next possession, quarterback Marc Bulger was hit and picked off. He hurt his shoulder on the play and never returned.

The St. Louis defense seemed to evaporate after that. Indianapolis scored two touchdowns before the end of the half and the Rams countered with just a field goal, but still led 20-14 going into the locker room.

In the third, the Colts were able to take the lead on an Edgerrin James eight-yard touchdown run. The extra point made it 24-20, in favor of Indianapolis. The Colts added three more touchdowns in the fourth quarter, before the Rams added a late touchdown and two-point conversion.

James rushed for 143 yards and three scores on the night, while Peyton Manning threw for 191 yards and two scores.

Rams backup quarterback Jamie Martin was 17-of-21 for 134 yards passing, a touchdown and two interceptions.

With the loss, the Rams fell to 2-4 and the Colts improved to 6-0.
