A group from Texas touts managed health care as a way to bring costs down while improving service. Northstar is operating in seven counties around Dallas as a part of Adapt America. Adapt of Texas Executive Director, Beth Epps, tells Missouri’s Medicaid Reform Commission managed care creates an environment the seeks the cheapest way to provide quality mental health care. Epps and others insist that managed care can work for the mentally ill, because they can choose the provider that best suits their needs. Northstar is one of several providers the state of Texas is using in an experiment in managed mental health care.
