It has been two years since the Blues had the excitement of a season opener. The 2004-2005 NHL season was cancelled due to the player lockout. Tonight, hockey returns for the Blues as they open up on the road at Detroit. On Thursday they will play their home opener as the Red Wings come to town.

This marks the fourth time the Blues and Red Wings have opened the season together. St. Louis have won two of those games and there has been one tie. However, the last time the two met in the opener was in 1982.

The Blues finished the pre-season with a record of 3-3. All 30 teams in the NHL will be playing tonight.
