The Cardinals will try for their second straight National League Championship and their first World Series title since 1982, as the open their National League Division Series against the Padres Tuesday afternoon. Getting the start for the Cardinals will be Chris Carpenter, who missed the 2004 post-season with an elbow injury. Carpenter was 21-5. His opponent is Jake Peavy who was 13-7 this season.

The Padres took four of seven regular season match ups from the Cardinals this year.

The Cardinals’ starting rotation for the NLDS is set with Chris Carpenter, Matt Morris and Mark Mulder. The bullpen will be short, as reliever Al Reyes has been scratched from the post season after suffering a detached ligament in his right elbow.
