The St. Louis Post Dispatch is reporting that St. Louis Blues owners Bill and Nancy Laurie have agreed to sell the team and the Savvis Center to former NBA executive David Checketts.

The Blues are not commenting on the story.

If the report is accurate, the Blues will have an owner who is no stranger to running sports franchises. Checketts is the former president and GM of the Utah Jazz and later the New York Knicks. When he took over the Jazz’s front office at 28 years of age, he became the youngest person in the NBA to do so. During his four years with the Knicks, New York went to the Eastern Conference Finals twice and advanced to the NBA Finals in 1994.

After that, Checketts was named the president and CEO of Madison Square Garden (MSG), which owns the Knicks, New York Rangers and New York Liberty. After departing in 2001, Checketts began a sports consulting and investment firm.

In June the Laurie’s put the team up for sale.
