One of the key components of any U.S. Senate race is the ability to raise dollars. And, Democrat Claire McCaskill is going to see that more and more as she embarks on her quest to convince Missourians to vote for her, next year, instead of incumbent Republican Jim Talent. Central Missouri State University political science professor Shari Bax says McCaskill can expect financial support from those in Missouri who have supported her in the past, but she’ll need help from outside the state. Bax cautions that contributions from some of the big Democratic core groups – such as the National Organization for Women and the abortion-rights group NARAL – could backfire in Missouri, a state in which many voters are in the center politically. Many of those in the center view such groups as NARAL as extreme in their views on abortion. Talent has already raised about $4-Million for his re-election bid.
