The State’s Emergency Management Agency is standing by, ready to help areas of Texas and Louisiana now bracing for Hurricane Rita. SEMA spokesperson Susie Stonner says, based on what the Gulf Region asked for when Hurricane Katrina rolled through a few weeks ago, there could be a variety of help this state could send. But Stonner expects the biggest request for help will be sheltering evacuees from the hurricane. Stonner says her agency will continue to talk to emergency managers in other states as well as federal officials to make sure the best help is given.
