Walter Lee Donnell was relaxing in his small room that night as he had every night for a number of months. It was just past suppertime and still early evening. Walter Donnell’s room had bars on the door. It was located on death row at the state penitentiary. He wasn’t sentenced by the state to die, but some of his fellow inmates decided he was to pay for squealing. On the night Walter Donnell died, the Missouri Penitentiary became a national headline.
