State lawmakers conclude their work during the two-week special session by approving a resolution calling on the Army Corps of Engineers to not implement a proposed “Spring Rise” on the Missouri River. Representative Peter Myers of Sikeston says releasing additional water in the Spring is counter to the purpose of Missouri River navigational system. The resolution is not binding, it can only ask the Corps not to implement the “Spring Rise”, which the Fish and Wildlife Service says would better protect endangered species living in the Missouri River. Governor Matt Blunt has already signed all the bills from this year’s special session.
