Missouri’s top man in the National Guard has toured the damage in the New Orleans area. Adjutant General King Sidwell says he’s impressed with how his two thousand Guardsmen are helping in relief down there but did not sound exactly impressed with how the federal and local officials handled the disaster. He says some poor planning seemed to make things worse. When asked whether or not he had faith the Federal Emergency Management Agency would be able to help in this state should a major natural disaster hit, such as a New Madrid fault earthquake, Sidwell would only say he’s the kind of guy who likes to do things himself.
