Governor Matt Blunt announces more moves made by Missouri to help ease the pain of the Gulf Coast as it attempts to recover from Hurricane Katrina. The Governor has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Louisiana Governor Blanco to shield Guardsmen from litigation and allow greater coordination with Guardsmen from other states. Blunt also calls on refugees coming to Missouri to register so they can receive federal assistance. Those displaced by the flood should contact the Federal Emergency Management Agency to tap into federal assistance being offered. Blunt says the state can house 2,000 refugees in St. Louis and 500 in Kansas City. It’s estimated that more than 4,000 have already made their way to Missouri, seeking shelter with relatives or churches.
