The annual Governor’s Mansion Blood Drive in Jefferson City is being billed a success by the American Red Cross. The Red Cross’s Catherine Hicks says that while this Blood Drive is an annual event, the need for blood following Hurricane Katrina makes blood donations particularly important. And, some of this blood collected might make its way to the hurricane-ravaged areas of the Gulf Coast states. She says Missouri’s supplies will be replenished, with additional units of blood being sent for use in the Gulf Coast states and elsewhere. The six hour event brought in 83 units of blood. The Red Cross had set a goal of 60 units.
