Refugees from Hurricane Katrina are starting to pour into Missouri and officials at the state Social Services Department are worried how they might tax the system. Director Gary Sherman says his own workers have all they can do working on Missouri’s cases. That’s why he’s looking for retired Social Services Department employees to volunteer some time to help those coming to our state. Sherman figures he’ll need at least 100 volunteers in all and points out that the State Health Department will need volunteers as well. He suggests Missourians check each agency’s web sites to find out how to volunteer.
